Austria frustrated with his flightless Falcons

“I’m putting a lot of effort on the players to motivate them… But it seems like some of the players are taking it for granted ’yung ginagawa ko sa kanila," says Adamson coach Leo Austria. Jerome Ascano

ADAMSON coach Leo Austria is hoping his players will turn things around following another disappointing loss by the Falcons in the UAAP Season 76 men's basketball competitions.

Frustration has been mounting on the Falcons side after Austria was seen quickly walking out of their dugout after a lopsided defeat against National University on Sunday.

After losing by just a point against La Salle in overtime in the second round opener, the Falcons suffered a humiliating 48-80 loss to National University on Sunday.

It was the Falcons’ fourth straight loss, putting them in seventh place with a 3-6 win-loss slate.

Austria confirmed that he walked out after another Adamson defeat to send a message to his players.

“Hindi ko alam kung anong nangyayari sa mga players. Nag-walk out ako para ma-feel nila ’yung urgency,” said Austria.

“I’m putting a lot of effort on the players to motivate them… But it seems like some of the players are taking it for granted ’yung ginagawa ko sa kanila. That is why I walked out after I had some words,” said Austria, who guided San Miguel Beer to an Asean Basketball League crown prior to this year's UAAP cage wars.

Austria said that he was optimistic that the Falcons will finally break their losing skid after a tight loss to La Salle to open up their second round campaign, only to lose by a wide margin to the Bulldogs.

“Excited nga ako sa second round. ’Yung first game namin against La Salle, excited pa rin ako dahil breaks of the game lang ‘yun. Nakapag-prepare kami ng husto (against NU) but I was surprised sa last game,” said Austria.

Austria said that the team hasn’t practiced since that game because of the monsoon rains so he still doesn’t know how the players will respond.

“I’ll be happy to see them playing well, may fulfillment eh,” said Austria.
