THIRDY Ravena of Ateneo emerged as the winner of UAAP juniors basketball’s season Most Valuable Player award at the end of the elimination round on Friday, achieving a feat that eluded his older brother Kiefer.
The Blue Eaglets star amassed 79.5714 statistical points to top the MVP race, according to the league’s official statistics provider Imperium Technology and Smart Bro, after averaging 18.7 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in the two-round eliminations.
The young Ravena finished ahead of National University’s Mark Dyke who had 74.7143 SPs while another Bullpup, John Cauilan, was a far third with 65.8333 SPs in the statistics tally.
Reinier Quinga of Adamson ended up fourth with 64.8571 SPs, followed by NU’s Hubert Cani with 63.7143 SPs.
The older Ravena twice won the Finals MVP honor during his time with the Blue Eaglets but never got to win the season MVP honor, which is based solely on player's statistics.
The 17-year-old Ravena became the first Blue Eaglet to win the MVP since now-Ateneo high school assistant coach Bacon Austria captured the award in 2006.
Thirdy, who won a a place in the Mythical Five last season, led the Blue Eaglets to an 11-3 win-loss record, second placers at the end of the elimination round.
The Blue Eaglets, however, lost to National University, 81-82, last Friday, giving the Bullpups an outright berth and a thrice-to-beat advantage in the finals.
Ateneo will face the winner of the De La Salle-Zobel-Far Eastern University-Diliman in the step-ladder playoffs.
