IT wasn’t exactly a huge debut for Troy Mallillin with the Ateneo Blue Eagles, but coach Tab Baldwin sees big things for the former NCAA juniors MVP in the UAAP men’s basketball competition.
Mallillin scored two points and grabbed five rebounds in nine minutes of play as the Blue Eagles defeated the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers on Monday in the Filoil preseason tournament.
“It's great to have Troy on our team. Very confident, very athletic kid," Baldwin said.
“He has a long way to go. We're thrilled with his attitude, his toughness. We look for big things from the kid,” Baldwin added.
Mallillin, who had already played a few games with La Salle during the preseason before transferring to Ateneo, admitted he felt pressure in his first game as an Eagle.
“Sobrang pressure. Siyempre kinakabahan kasi first time ko sa kanila maglaro," Mallillin said.
“Mataas yung pressure pero ginawa ko lang yung pinapagawa niya sa akin at sinunod ko lang yung sistema,” he said.
Mallillin added he is thrilled to be playing under fomer Gilas coach Baldwin.
"Mas mag-iimprove ka talaga as a player kasi hindi lang puro basketball meron tungkol din sa future mo tsaka academics," he said.
