ATENEO'S deep playoff run in the 2019 PBA D-League has derailed coach Tab Baldwin's original plan for the Blue Eagles training in Greece ahead of the UAAP season.
"We would like to, but obviously the D-League requirements now will carry us through June," said the outspoken mentor on Monday during the 2019 Chooks-to-Go Collegiate Press Corps Awards Night at Amelie Hotel Manila.
The Blue Eagles, carrying the banner of Cignal-Ateneo, topped the Aspirants Group in the eliminations with an 8-1 record before dispatching Chadao-FEU, 67-60, to advance to the best-of-three semifinals against Valencia City Bukidnon-SSCR.
The series begins next week. And regardless of the outcome, Baldwin said plans for the team's annual overseas training has been put on hold.
"Even if we get knocked out, you have to plan as if you are going to be abroad. So we can't put chores together overnight. So I don't think we are going anywhere in June which is unfortunate because we would like to," he said.
Still, the American-Kiwi mentor, who was honored with his second UAAP Coach of the Year award, is still holding out hope that the Blue Eagles will find the time for an intensive training session before the season begins in September.
"We are trying to put something in July but right now, we are not sure."
