MVP grateful for La Salle acts of sportsmanship: 'I am heartened by your magnanimity'

Dec 5, 2017
Ateneo patron Manny V. Pangilinan expressed his appreciation for La Salle's acts of sportsmanship despite losing in a heated UAAP Finals series.

ATENEO men’s basketball team patron Manny V. Pangilinan called the recent gesture of La Salle to honor the Blue Eagles in their UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball conquest as a great example to the youth.

Pangilinan extended a short letter to La Salle president Br. Raymundo Suplido, a copy of which was posted in the Lasallian Mission at DLSU Facebook page, thanking him for lighting up the St. La Salle Hall campus of the school with blue lights.

The gesture came following a heated finals series between Ateneo and La Salle wherein emotions ran high on the court and even on the stands. The Blue Eagles won the series via a thrilling 88-86 win in Game Three.

“I am heartened by your magnanimity in the face of a loss. An example has been set, and a message may have been set too — especially to our youth — that while partisanship in competition is to be expected, it should not extend long after the outcome has been determined,” wrote Pangilinan.

“May I take this occasion to wish you and the La Salle community the best of Christmas, and of the New Year. I do hope I could visit you in your Taft office sometime soon,” said Pangilinan.
