ATENEO de Davao is immortalizing Rene Baterbonia's legacy, renaming its senior high school court in honor of the former Palarong Pambansa MVP.
University president Fr. Karel San Juan, SJ announced the renaming of the facility to Rene 'Bobet' Baterbonia Covered Court during the final night of viewing at the Christ the King Chapel.

"Forever naming maaalala si Bobet Baterbonia sa pamamagitan ng covered court," he said, adding ADDU plans to adorn the court with pictures of Baterbonia to serve as an inspiration for those who follow in his footsteps.
Blue Knights coach Jess Evangelio was humbled by the gesture to his former player who brought immense pride not just to the school but to the whole nation.
"What an incredible and meaningful tribute to a young man who inspired so many people through his humility, hard work, faith, and love for his family," he said.
"Rene dreamed big despite having very little. He carried the pride of his family, his community, and Ateneo de Davao wherever he went. Now, generations of student-athletes will step onto that court and be reminded of his story, his sacrifices, and the dreams he chased with all his heart."
Moreover, the school has retired Baterbonia's No, 2 jersey, meaning no one else could use that number for Ateneo de Davao.
The school earlier announced that it will support the education of Baterbonia's six siblings, offering full scholarship to each of them.
Baterbonia's remains were brought to his hometown in Talacogon, Agusan del Sur on Monday evening ahead of his burial on Wednesday.
