ATENEO consultant Tab Baldwin hopes the tough loss against the Adamson Falcons on Sunday will serve as a lesson that will make the Blue Eagles better in the long run.
The Blue Eagles had a 10-point lead going to the fourth but a tough Adamson defense was able to turn the tide, limiting the Katipunan-based squad to five points the rest of the way to set the stage for the Falcons' 62-61 win.
"Great game, we'll learn from that. We need to learn. We're a young team, as we keep saying week after week. This is what young teams do." Baldwin said.
"These past experiences I hope the players take them on board, and we get better from that."
Baldwin heaped praise on the San Marcelino-based squad, saying the team simply played great basketball especially on the defensive end.
"You gonna give Adamson a lot of credit, I mean that's a good basketball team. We fought toe-to-toe today and that's great basketball. It's fun to watch. It's fun to be a part of," the national team coach said.
"In the fourth quarter, they did a great job defensively on us so we made a few mistakes in terms of rushing some shots in some possessions, and turning the ball over a few times."
Baldwin also believes that Ateneo played great defense in the final Adamson play that led to Dawn Ochea making the last-gasp winning basket.
"Ochea you know, big two points, so I didn't think our defense was bad in that last possession," the Gilas coach said. "We fouled when we needed to and ran it down and he just really hit a tough shot and we missed the one we needed to make."
