    Ateneo Blue Eaglets cruise past FEU Baby Tams to gain share of early lead with NU Bullpups

    Kai Sotto only had six points but hauled down 16 rebounds against the defending champions

    ATENEO and National University beat separate rivals on Sunday to share the lead in the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

    The Blue Eaglets beat reigning champion Far Eastern University, 59-47, while the Bullpups won over University of Santo Tomas, 89-85, to gain a 3-0 win-loss slate early in the elimination round.

    Enrico Manuel had 16 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks, while SJ Belangel added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Blue Eaglets. Kai Sotto only had six points but hauled down 16 rebounds against the defending champions.

    LJhay Gonzales contributed 13 points, nine rebounds, and four steals for the Baby Tamaraws.

    Rhayyan Amsali delivered 17 points and 10 rebounds, as Terrence Fortea also came up big for the Bullpups with 16 points and five rebounds. Miguel Oczon added 12 points, six rebounds, and two steals.

    NU shrugged off John Cansino’s effort as the UST Tiger Cub had a season-high 35 points in the game.

    With their defeats, the Baby Tamaraws and the Tiger Cubs fell to third place with 2-1 win-loss slate

    In other results, Adamson and University of the Philippines Integrated School earned their first victory after three matches.

    Andrey Doria had 15 points and eight rebounds as the Baby Falcons edged De La Salle-Zobel, 62-58. Bryant Terrado had 16 points, while Raven Cortez tallied 17 rebounds for the Junior Archers.

    Matt Santiago had 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Junior Maroons won over University of the East, 83-81.

    Adamson and UPIS are tied for fifth place with a 1-2 slate, while La Salle-Zobel and UE are still winless in three matches.
