NATIONAL University and Ateneo-B set up a titular showdown in the 18th University Games men’s basketball tournament after surviving their respective semifinal matches on Sunday in Bacolod City.
The Bulldogs avenged their UAAP Final Four loss to University of Santo Tomas by defeating the Tigers, 68-63, while the Blue Eagles-B won over Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation (Cesafi) champion University of Visayas, 75-49.
The finals is scheduled on Monday.
NU, which has in its roster Alfred Aroga, Henri Betayene, JJ Alejandro, and several players from its Team B, turned back the shorthanded UST squad which played without Kevin Ferrer and Aljon Mariano.
On the other hand, the Blue Eagles-B of Chris Newsome and Nico Elorde atoned for the ouster of Ateneo-A led by Kiefer Ravena, which was eliminated in the quarterfinal round.
In the women’s division, University of Santo Tomas nipped Adamson, 79-78, in overtime to win the gold.
NU bagged the bronze with a 58-45 victory over College of Saint Benilde.
