FAR Eastern University extended its winning streak to three games with a resounding 78-59 victory over University of the Philippines on Sunday in the UAAP Season 80 basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Tamaraws rose to third place in the team standings after improving their record to 4-2.
The Maroons slipped to 3-2 a week after defeating reigning champion La Salle.
FEU used a 22-10 second quarter to take a 40-24 lead at the half.
Ron Dennison spearheaded a 14-0 run in the fourth after UP sliced the gap to 10.
Dennison finished with 16 points, making 7 of 15 shots from the field, and added seven rebounds and three assists.
FEU also contained UP's top star Paul Desiderio, who was limited to nine points on 4 of 12 shooting.
"It was a defensive game for us," said FEU coach Olsen Racela. "First time namin this year to limit a team below 60 points. 'Yun ang focus namin sa start of the game, to limit them defensively. Timing din na we caught them on an off-night."
"'Yung mga napasok nilang shots against La Salle, hindi pumapasok ngayon," said Racela.
Ibrahim Ouattara had 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Juan Gomez De Liano pumped in 12 points for the Fighting Maroons.
