FEU’s Arvin Tolentino played against his former UAAP team for the first time on Sunday, but said he was not out to prove himself against Ateneo.
Instead, Tolentino said he was happy to see his former teammates on the other side, and enjoyed every minute of it.
Unfortunately for the Tamaraws, they could not stop the Eagles from scoring their third straight win.
"I enjoyed it kasi 'yung mga former teammates ko, na-miss ko rin sila," said Tolentino, who bared his ex-Ateneo teammates greeted him before the game particularly, no relation, Vince Tolentino.
"Before the game, sinabihan nila ako na we missed you especially Vince kasi kami nagpapalitan ng mukha sa practice. Pareho pa kami ng apelyido," said Arvin, who played for the BLue Eagles for the first two years of his collegiate basketball career before transferring to Far Eastern University.
Tolentino finished with 11 points and even led a comeback attempt by FEU in the fourth quarter.
The FEU cager said the only motivation he and his team had was to come up with a win.
"Same lang din katulad ng ibang games namin, coming into the game prepared, gustong manalo. Extra motivation siguro hindi dahil Ateneo ang kalaban. Siguro dahil we want to pick ourselves up dahil 1-1 na rin kami. Kapag natalo kami, medyo mahirap na position na 'yun. 'Yun lang 'yung extra motivation lang," said Tolentino.
"Me and Hubert (Cani), hindi porket Ateneo kalaban, wala naman kaming bawi factor. Teammates din namin sila before. Same as the other teams," he added.
Tolentino lauded his former teammates as their hardwork under head coach Tab Baldwin has been paying off.
"Grabe sila. They are super disciplined. They are well-coached with coach Tab. Umabot din ako kay coach Tab. Disciplined talaga sila. Kung ayaw mo dumisiplina, wag ka na maglaro. Grabe improvement nila. Two years ago, I was there. Mga totoy pa kami. I'm happy for them of course," said Tolentino.
