NOW that he is a hundred percent healthy, Arnold Van Opstal can’t wait to see Thomas Torres get back on the floor in the final stretch of De La Salle’s bid to claim the UAAP men’s basketball title for the second straight time.
Van Opstal returned to action Saturday after missing four games due to an Achilles heel injury. He made his comeback by churning out a near double-double effort of 12 points and eight rebounds in the Green Archers’ 86-65 win over University of the Philippines.
Despite his absence, the Archers managed to stretch their winning streak which is now at seven.
The positive result had Van Opstal now looking forward to the return of Torres to the lineup as he continues to recover from a fracture in his right foot.
“I feel like we are just waiting for Thomas. Personally, I can’t wait to play with Thomas again. I’m eagerly awaiting because now that I know what it’s like to come off an injury. It’s a hard task. I’m just waiting for him so I can help him through as well,” said Van Opstal.
The La Salle big ma said he has been ready to play against Ateneo but felt it was just right that he wasn’t fielded in by head coach Juno Sauler during the game.
“After only practicing once before the Ateneo game, as much as I would like to say that I was ready, I wanted to play but maybe I wasn’t ready when it came to focus,” said Van Opstal.
More than anything else, Van Opstal said he even happier with La Salle’s victory more than making his return to the floor.
“I was satisfied that we got the W. That’s the most important thing,” said Van Opstal.
