ADD Arnie Christian Padilla to the stockpile of Cebuano basketball talent that is building up over at the Far Eastern University Tamaraws.
The versatile 6-foot-2 forward from Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu has committed to join the Tamaraws after his stellar showing in the recently-concluded Seaoil-NBTC National High School Championship.
“Yes, it’s final. I’ve decided to join the FEU Tamaraws,” said the son of former San Miguel center Onie Padilla. Padilla said FEU head coach Nash Racela approached him and his dad after the tournament and broached the idea of becoming a Tamaraw.
Padilla has attended an FEU practice session and the current RP under-17 team member should have no problem feeling right at home with the green and yellow, with several Cebuanos already in the FEU pool.
This includes former University of Cebu forward Roger Pogoy, University of San Carlos guard Joel Christian Lee Yu, Cebu Eastern College center Raymar Jose and University of the Visayas guard Ron Dennison.
The coaching staff also has Cebuanos Bert Flores and Ryan Betia.
“It was great and fun. I’m still adjusting especially with the new team, the new system and the new community,” the 6-2 Padilla told Spin.ph.
It remains to be seen, though, if Padilla can immediately make FEU's Team A especially with his upcoming stint in the 2014 Fiba Under-17 World Championship which will be held in Dubai this June.
The elder Padilla gave his stamp of approval with his son’s choice of school for his collegiate career.
“The coaching staff likes him a lot. He fits their system very well,” said Onie Padilla.
