La Salle’s Norbert Torres tries to power his way against UE’s Christopher Javier.

DE LA SALLE notched its longest winning streak this season by routing University of the East, 73-52, on Saturday in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Green Archers won their third in a row and raise their win-loss record to 5-3 overall, tying National University in fourth place.

“This should serve as a buffer for us,” said La Salle coach Gee Abanilla. “At least we are tied with NU right now and I’m happy that the guys responded.”

Arnold Van Opstal was one of the Archers who stepped up, scoring 12 points off the bench including a slam dunk during a 17-6 run in the fourth.

LA Revilla and Yutien Andrada didn't play for the Green Archers in the game because of an ankle injury.

Jeron Teng finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks while Norbert Torres added 10 points.

The Red Warriors dropped to 1-7 despite the entry of new coach Boycie Zamar.

UE had a fighting chance in the game and even led, 16-15, at the end of the first quarter. The Red Warriors only trailed by six points, 37-43, in the third but La Salle answered with seven points—three from Van Opstal.

Van Opstal’s thundering dunk in the paint with six minutes and 57 seconds in the game started a 10-2 run to put the Archers ahead, 67-47.
