LA SALLE’s triumph in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament has all the more fueled the competitive fire of Ben Mbala, who is itching to suit up for a team that he believes can dominate for five or six straight years.
Mbala was recruited by La Salle during the preseason after a stellar year with Southwestern University in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. where he dominated the league with his height and build.
The Cameroonian center, however, is currently on residency and will have to wait another year before suiting up for La Salle in 2015 due to the league's new two-year residency requirement for foreigners.
For Mbala, it has become an excruciating wait.
“I’m really excited,” said Mbala, minutes after the Green Archers win the series over UST 2-1 on Saturday. “I have to get ready. My team is waiting for me so I have to work hard.”
Mbala, currently playing for La Salle’s Team B, vowed to help Archers continue to become title contenders for years to come.
“I’m really happy for them. I hope we can reach five- or six-peat,” said Mbala, who watched from the sidelines when the Archers won the deciding Game Three, 71-69, against University of Santo Tomas on Saturday.
