ATENEO assistant Sandy Arespacochaga insists that Angelo Kouame’s explosion wasn’t by any design or whatsoever – it’s just a mere by-product of the system that they’re running.

Kouame finished with his best individual performance in the UAAP as he finished with 20 points on 8-9 shooting to go along 14 boards and four blocks as the Blue Eagles walloped the UST Growling Tigers, 85-53, on Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

“I wish we could tell you that we had a gameplan wherein he’s gonna score 20 points but that’s not how we play. We play based on the system,” said Arespacochaga who even put Raffy Verano’s explosion last game as an example.

“It’s Angelo today. I don’t know next game who it will be. It’s just the way we play. It was a very good team effort on our part because if you noticed, it’s not one on one moves with Angelo,” he added.

Arespachochaga, however, lauded Kouame’s performance, noticing his quick transition in the UAAP – as he easily converts the passes that he receives from his guards.

“Of course he had a couple of good moves, and we’re happy that he’s improving, but it’s the passes from the guards, from Thirdy and from the four men that were important for us in getting the scoring.”

Kouame was quick to deflect his big game to his teammates, agreeing with Arespacochaga that it would have been an entirely different story had it not been for his teammates.

“My teammates are the best. I really like my teammates. The way we move the ball, the way we share it, it makes me open. So I say thank you to them.”
