UAAP Commissioner Andy Jao wants an explanation from University of the Philippines coach Rey Madrid following consecutive technical fouls that led to his ejection from the Maroons’ recent game before determining if he would be hit with another suspension.
Madrid was sent off during the first quarter of UP’s game against University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday after incurring two successive technical fouls for complaining to the referees. The Maroons lost to the Tigers, 77-65.
“Hindi pa kami nag-uusap. Sumulat lang ako sa kanya to explain his side. Binigyan ko siya ng time kasi kaninang umaga ko lang napadala,” said Jao on Thursday.
Jao preferred not to speculate on whether a suspension is a possibility as the Maroons will have a game on Saturday against Far Eastern University.
“We’ll see the situation,” said Jao.
Madrid has already been suspended by the league for two games following his controversial comments regarding the officiating of their first round game, ironically, against UST. With Madrid out, the Maroons won their first game after 27 games when they beat Adamson at the end of the first round.
