ANDREI Caracut acknowledges the enormity of responsibility vested on his shoulders after being named as La Salle team captain.
With longtime starting guard Kib Montalbo gone, Caracut has shown he is ready to take on the mantle of leadership mantle for the Green Archers in the upcoming UAAP wars.
"Sa akin, maganda yung responsibility na yun. Kailangan maging accountable ako at ikaw ang dapat tularan. Dapat good example ako sa teammates ko," he said.
Caracut showed that, and more, in La Salle's 72-49 opening day win over University of Santo Tomas in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup on Sunday.
The 5-foot-11 guard hit three treys in the second quarter to spark the Green Archers' breakaway. He finished with 19 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Caracut explained that pcking up the scoring cudgels was just his way of steadying the La Salle ship after what he felt was a lackadaisical start for his crew.
"Medyo pangit pa rin ang nilaro namin kanina. Tinambakan namin pero as a team, iba ang nakikita ko sa practice. Kailangan naming mag-adjust pa," he said. "Medyo magulo yung tinatakbo namin kaya kailangan ko lang ayusin."
Caracut's explosion allowed La Salle to break away from a tight first quarter and grab a 39-27 halftime lead before blowing away UST in the second half.
Though it's still early, the 23-year-old hopes to further establish himself as the team's leader as the Green Archers continue their preseason preparations.
"Nage-enjoy din ako. Hindi na rin ako nahirapan kasi para sa akin din naman ito," he said.
