In a SPIN.ph column shortly after news of his controversial move broke, it was revealed that Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin and the rest of the Blue Eagles were shell-shocked by Amos’ departure — one he reportedly dismissed to Baldwin just days before.

But in a statement on Friday morning, Amos shared why he opted not to inform the team of his exit.

“It’s been a tough week with a decision I made due to my reasons. However my actions were unacceptable and not called for,” said Amos.
“Although I did mention the offer to the management, they weren’t informed about my final decision as well as my teammates (because) I felt that it was a personal decision for me and my family.”
Amos takes responsibility
He did hold himself accountable, however, for ‘not being considerate’ but also acknowledged how he’d no longer expect his former squad to be welcoming of him ffor all that went down these past few days.
And even if he’ll soon don green-and-white over in Taft, his love for Ateneo won’t ever die down.

“However, I will apologize for not being considerate. To my teammates, coaches, the community and the alumni, I am sorry for my actions and I will own up to a mistake that could’ve been handled better."
“I don’t expect forgiveness, but I just hope for understanding. I do love Ateneo and I wish all the best.”
Amos’ surprise transfer left a sour taste on his ex-teammates, with cryptic social media posts and a mass unfollow spree on Instagram all unfolding at the heat of the announcement.
