ALVIN Pasaol believes University of the East’s gallant stand against powerhouse La Salle is a promising sign that the elusive win in UAAP Season 79 is just around the corner for the Red Warriors.
The Red Warriors played perhaps their best basketball this season against the Green Archers but fell short as they lost by six points in the contest, 78-84, on Wednesday to fall to their sixth consecutive defeat.
But Pasaol has reasons to be optimistic that their first win is within reach as they were able to contend against the best team of the league this season.
“Eto ‘yung kukunan namin ng base na kaya pala namin,” said Pasaol. “Siguro kailangan pa naming mag-pursige at mag-effort sa practice.”
UE now caps off its first round campaign against Adamson on Sunday where the Red Warriors are in search of that elusive victory. Still, the Red Warriors are not all losing confidence moving forward.
“Ginawa namin ‘yung part namin at ‘yung game plan ni coach. Gumanda ‘yung laro ko kasi grabe rin ‘yung tiwala nila sa amin. Even though nasa baba kami, hindi kami sumu-surrender,” said Pasaol.
Pasaol said UE was able to play its game on defense, but hopes to address the Red Warriors woes on offense in their next outing.
“Nakakaagaw kami at nakaka-force ng turnovers, hindi lang kami maka-convert,” said Pasaol, who has clearly put his first-year jitters aside with 22 points and six rebounds against La Salle..
“Kumportable na ako sa mga tao, sa mga banda, siguro nakuha ko na ‘yun (laro ko),” he added.
