Alvin Pasaol shrugs off season-low output, vows to bounce back as UE tries to keep flickering hopes alive

    Oct 28, 2017

ALVIN Pasaol might have been limited to his lowest scoring performance this season, but the prolific forward won’t be losing sleep over it.

The 6’3 scoring machine was held to just eight points on 2-11 shooting from the field in the Red Warriors’ 97-73 blowout loss at the hands of the unbeaten Ateneo Blue Eagles on Saturday at the Mall of Asia.

Coming into this game, Pasaol was averaging 22.2 points per game in the UAAP Season 80, while upping those numbers to 28. 2 over the last six matches prior to this match.

However, Pasaol understands that these types of games are bound to come.

“Hindi naman frustrated. Siguro ganun lang talaga yun. May off-day talaga eh, siguro ito yung araw na yun,” said Pasaol.

“Siguro nadepensahan nila talaga ako kaya nastop nila ako. Yung defense nila, laging nasa akin. Di nila ako nilulubayan,” he added.

After his 49 point explosion, Pasaol knew that teams are gonna come down hard on him in defense. But despite getting extra attention, Pasaol even breached the 30 point limit twice and was just held to below 20 once on that six-game stretch.

He even warranted the full commitment of Ben Mbala on defense in their loss to La Salle, but he still finished with a game-high 23 markers.

So what makes the Ateneo team defense? It’s probably how the team worked collectively to stop him.

“Siguro mas nag stick talaga sila. Same lang naman sila pero siguro iba kasi talaga yung depensa ng Ateneo diba talaga kaysa nung Mbala nung last,” Pasaol continued.

With just two games to go and the Red Warriors now in the ropes, Pasaol is just looking to make the most out of their final two outings of the season.

“Laban pa rin kami. Kahit nasa baba ang standings namin pero kailangan pa rin namin lumaban.”
