Alvin Pasaol forgoing fourth year as UE Red Warriors undergo major revamp

    Apr 27, 2019

ALVIN Pasaol's run with the University of the East has come to an end.

The Warriors’ top scorer will not be returning to the red-and-white for UAAP Season 82 later this year.

"Baka hindi na," Pasaol curtly replied, forgoing what would have been his fourth year with the Red Warriors.

UE team manager Lawrence Chongson also answered in the affirmative when asked about the news, saying, "I'm assuming wala na talaga siya sa UE."

Pasaol has not attended any team practices since the conclusion of last season's campaign, where UE finished dead-last with its 1-13 card.

This draws the curtain on Pasaol’s impressive run college basketball, with the 23-year-old being named as a part of the Mythical Five twice in three years with UE.

Pasaol averaged 24.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.0 assist in UAAP Season 81, but his crowning moment came a season prior, where he posted 49 points in a losing effort to La Salle.

Curiously, Pasaol announced last November that he will not enter the 2018 PBA Rookie Draft, where he was pegged among the possible first-rounders, and spent the offseason being part of Petron-Letran in the PBA D-League and 1Bataan Risers in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 League.

He also played for Balanga Chooks in the Doha Masters of the 2019 Fiba 3x3 World Tour in Qatar last week.

Pasaol isn't the only one who will not make his return to the Red Warriors as 11 others are also gone from the team.

Jason Varilla has already graduated, while Wilson Bartolome, JC Cullar, Mark Maloles, Rey Acuno, Jason Strait, Ric Gallardo, Brian Lacap, Jan Sobrevega, Shannon Gagate, and Leo Guion were all left out of the rebuild.

UE coach Joe Silva has only kept four holdovers from last season's campaign, namely Philip Manalang, Chris Conner, Allan Beltran and Jojo Antiporda.

They will be part of the revamped core of the Red Warriors which will feature Senegalese slotman Adama Diakhite, two-time Cesafi MVP Rey Suerte, Fil-Kiwi forward Richie Rodger, ex-Ateneo big man John Apacible and rookie Harvey Pagsanjan of Hope Christian High School.
