ALJUN Melecio was a huge spark off the bench for La Salle as the Green Archers picked up their 10th win in as many outings in UAAP Season 79.
Melecio scored 13 of his 18 points in the first half to help La Salle overcome a 10-point deficit early in the game to beat National University, 113-88, on Wednesday.
But the Archers rookie played down his scoring outburst, saying it was only a product of his hard work and the support he gets from the La Salle coaching staff.
“Confidence lang,” said Melecio about his scoring exploits. “Sabi ni coach kasi, take your shots and play your game. If wala, just move the ball.”

With Melecio’s effort, La Salle moved four victories away from sweeping the elimination round, but the rookie from La Salle Zobel isn’t thinking too far ahead.
“Super happy kami pero hindi pa tapos ‘yung season. Keep working hard pa rin,” said Melecio.
The La Salle coaching staff is also not looking at a sweep at this point of the season, as they continue to find ways to improve as a team.
“Right now, we haven’t achieved anything. We want to continue playing as a team, and we want to continue to build our team. Just take it one game at a time,” said La Salle assistant coach Paolo Sauler.
