ALJUN Melecio said he is motivated rather than pressured by the Rookie of the Year award he is set to get in UAAP Season 79.
Soon after learning that he will receive the individual award, a pumped-up Melecio played a vital role in the Green Archers' 67-65 Game One victory over archrival Ateneo on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The La Salle freshman, however, said the award was furthest from his mind as he kept his focus on winning the game - and the championship - for the green and white.
"For me it's a blessing kasi Rookie of the Year ako pero I'm looking at it as a motivation more than pressure," said the hot-shooting guard, who scored 12 points on three-pointers in Game One.
"It will make me become better coming to Game Two."
The former UAAP juniors MVP said talks with La Salle head coach Aldin Ayo keep him on an even keel during the finals.
"Syempre I just have to play my game, hindi ko iniisip ang pressure lalo na 'yung sinasabi ng iba na MVP sa high school so dapat mag-perform ng maayos sa college and 'yung RoY," he said.
"Lalo na si coach hindi niya pinapa-feel sa akin ang pressure."
