UNIVERSITY of the East is hoping that Alex Diakhite's situation won't worsen as the Senegalese big man returned to the hospital after his side's 81-65 defeat to Far Eastern University on Sunday.
Active consultant Lawrence Chongson bared that the wide-bodied bruiser had to be admitted to UERM Memorial Medical Center late Saturday night.
"Kagabi ng 12:15 a.m. tinakbo siya sa emergency room. Nilalagnat at nanghihina daw siya. Dehydrated, nag-blood test at pinilit niya sa gamot," he said.
"Sinugod siya sa emergency room, 37.8-degrees siya at latang lata. Nag-check out siya sa ospital 2 a.m. na."
Doctors suspect that the 6-foot-9 Diakhite may have had dengue, which if true, would add to the Red Warriors' woes early in the UAAP Season 82 men's basketball tournament.
"Suspected nila dengue eh. Naglaro siya ngayon pero babalik siya sa ospital," he said.
Diakhite's game was obviously hampered by his condition, that despite posting 21 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks, struggled to keep up with his more-agile foes from FEU.
"Hindi siya dominating. Tinitirahan siya ng kalaban ng harap-harapan. Maraming second chance points at offensive rebounds yung FEU," rued Chongson, with the Tamaraws scoring 11 of their 11 offensive boards.
UE, however, is keeping its fingers crossed that Diakhite improves as the days go by, with the Red Warriors hoping to avoid a 0-3 start against Adamson on Wednesday.
"Hopefully, hindi dengue kasi kung hindi, pati sa Miyerkules wala yan," said the outspoken mentor.
