ALDIN Ayo has never lost by more than 12 points in his career in the UAAP and the NCAA.

That was until he faced Ateneo in the UAAP Season 81.

The UAAP and NCAA champion coach suffered the worst loss in his young, bustling career as his UST Growling Tigers got blown out by the mighty Ateneo Blue Eagles, 85-53, on Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

Prior to this loss, Ayo has only lost twice by double digits in his collegiate career, the worst coming against the same Ateneo squad in his first year in the UAAP where they lost, 83-71. Ayo never lost in double-digits in the NCAA.

Ayo, however, understands that situation that he’s in right now and he’s not about to make excuses for that embarrassing defeat.

“You have to take that as a man. Ganun talaga eh. Every time you experience like this you become sensitive and you see things na kailangan tanggapin,” Ayo said after the game.

It’s an entirely new environment for Ayo – and to add insult to injury, he heard jeers and things that ‘can’t be published’ from the Ateneo crowd right when the Blue Eagles were making a run late in the fourth quarter.

But being the competitor that he is, Ayo is taking it all in – using that as a fuel for himself and for his squad moving forward.

“Naririnig niyo yung mga sinisigaw ng mga Atenista? Naririnig niyo mga sinisigaw? But it will help us. It will help our program. It will help me personally. It will help the whole team,” Ayo explained.

“They’re just fueling our drive to strive more and make sure that we’ll be better next time,” he added.

The challenge now for Ayo is keeping the positivity in the locker room, especially as he handles a young team that could be disheartened with the loss.

Ayo, however, is confident that he can steer the team to the right path.

“Even though it’s a 32-point loss this will not make us a lesser team. May mga di lang kaming nagawang tama. Ganun naman yung basketball eh . Pag may mga ginawa kang hindi tama, Pwedeng ilubog ka talaga nang ilubog eh. Kahit wala ka namang chance manalo, pero if you do the right things baka, baka makakuha ng panalo,” said Ayo.

“This is just one game for sure hindi maapektuhan yung confidence ng mga bata. I’ll make sure na hindi naapektuhan. HIndi naman kasalanan ng mga bata eh. Kasalanan to ng coaching staff. Kasalanan ko 'to.”
