ALL signs point to Aldin Ayo returning as head coach of La Salle.
On Wednesday, the management of the La Salle men’s basketball team released a statement saying the Green Archers will resume practices on January 16 with Ayo supervising the team's preparation for the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL).
The Green Archers are seeded outright into the tournament after finishing second to arch-rival Ateneo in the last UAAP season.
Sources said Wednesday’s statement was an offshoot of a Christmas gathering between Ayo and top La Salle basketball officials where, sources said, Ayo made the commitment to stay with the Green Archers.
Sources said Ayo went home to Sorsogon after the UAAP season not just to recharge but also to mull over his future, especially with an offer from University of Santo Tomas on the table.
Ayo even tweeted the word ‘Xroad’ during that period, a clue that he was torn between staying with the Green Archers and joining the Tigers.
According to sources, UST officials were confident of getting Ayo's nod that they prepared to make an annoucement on Ayo’s hiring as Growling Tigers head coach during an alumni party on Monday.
No such announcement was made.
Ayo has yet to respond to messages of SPIN.ph for confirmation, but league old-timers see the events of the past two days as clear signs that the temperamental coach is staying put at La Salle.
