Aldin Ayo breaks silence, says he's cooperating with UST on bubble probe

Ayo releases a statement amid mounting pressure over Sorsogon bubble training
    Aug 23, 2020

ALDIN Ayo has finally broken his silence on the supposed Bicol bubble, saying he's fully cooperating on the ongoing investigation of the University of Santo Tomas on the matter.

"I will not comment for now as UST is already investigating the matter as well as the IATF. I am fully cooperating with the ongoing investigations and praying that in due time, this will be properly addressed," he wrote in a statement.

The Growling Tigers has been under the microscope since the news of the team's Sorsogon sojourn came to light following the sudden exit of ex-team captain CJ Cansino, who claimed he was booted out of the team.

Copies of the supposed waiver for the Bicol trip also surfaced on Sunday, with the waiver indicating that the undersigned players voluntarily came to Sorsogon for the training sessions.

Sorsogon has been under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) as a moderate risk areas since June, the timeframe when the players supposedly headed there.

On Sunday morning, UST released its own statement saying it has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the matter which many believe was in breach of the government's quarantine protocol.

The UAAP, represented by president Nonong Calanog of La Salle and executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag, has already met with government officials led by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) national training director Marc Velasco, Games and Amusements Board (GAB) chairman Baham Mitra, and Department of Health (DOH) representative Rodley Carza on Saturday to tackle the matter. The group will meet anew on Wednesday.

Such is what happened in the case of CJ Cansino and the UST Basketball team under my stewardship.

The circumstances of life today have brought out the marked differences between my orientation in life and the fundamental option of our player CJ Cansino.

We have found that it would be best that we part ways and allow maximum growth for each other. We wish him the Best of Providence in his new endeavor with a different team. We express our gratitude for the years and effort he poured so generously for UST.

Regarding the alleged “bubble training” in Sorsogon, I will not comment for now as UST is already investigating the matter as well as the IATF. I am fully cooperating with the on-going investigations and praying that in due time, this will be properly addressed.

We fervently hope that our government, with our cooperation and active participation, find ways to effectively address the debilitating pandemic in our country so that we may be able to resume a certain normalcy where we could return to the game we passionately love and give our utmost drawing the best out of each one in pursuit of total human development.
