FORMER Far Eastern University star Terrence Romeo should mature if he wants his prosper as a pro.
This was the advice of Romeo's former adviser and well-known player agent Ed Ponceja, who passed the job of managing the reigning UAAP MVP's career to the cager’s dad weeks before the PBA rookie draft.
“Mabait na bata 'yang si Terrence. Talagang 'yung ugali lang niya sa laro ang minsan nakakasira sa kanyang imahe,” said Ponceja of the prospective first-rounder.
Ponceja, who also represents Marc Pingris, Marc Barroca, and KG Canaleta as well as incoming rookie RR Garcia, among others, said Romeo's attitude on the court should also improve.
“Ang kailangan talagang kontrolin ni Terrence yung pagiging gigil niya na tumira … Hindi pwede sa PBA 'yan. He should know the role he will play based on the advice of the coaching staff,” he said.
Ponceja pointed to how the Tamaraws star behaved in his last season in the UAAP, which was marred by the infamous ‘wet scene’ with De La Salle star Jeron Teng.

“Kaya ang tanong ko lagi, ‘Is he already mature enough to be in the PBA?’ Yan ang sana ipakita ni Terrence kapag andun na siya,” said Ponceja, pointing out that basketball is more than just about skills.
The outspoken player agent, however, believes Romeo has what it takes to become a certified PBA superstar, so long as he succeeds in putting his act together.
Romeo's biggest enemy, he said, is himself.
“May talent si Terrence," said Ponceja. "Sarili lang niya talaga ang kalaban niya.”
