Adili family also requests autopsy on Divine's remains

CHUKWUEMEKA Divine Adili's remains will also be subjected to an autopsy, acceding to his family's requests.

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria released a public notice on Wednesday night, laying out the processes before the late Ateneo center's remains is brought to his hometown of Lagos.

"The family has requested that an autopsy be conducted before arrangements for the repatriation of Mr. Adili's remains to Nigeria are finalized. The Embassy is providing all necessary consular assistance and support in this regard," the statement read.

It also assured that the Embassy is in close coordination with the family and Ateneo de Manila University, as well as relevant law enforcement agencies and authorities in the investigation of this tragic incident which cost the lives of Adili and teammate Rene Baterbonia.

"The Embassy extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Nigerian community mourning this painful loss. We also extend our sympathies to the family of the Filipino student-athlete who similarly lost his life in the same incident," it added.

An autopsy had already been done on Baterbonia's remains, with the cause of death found to be asphyxia by drowning. His wake is now being held at Arlington Memorial Chapel in Quezon City.

Adili's body, meanwhile, is in an undisclosed morgue, as it awaits examination.

Moreover, the Embassy implored everyone to avoid speculations and refrain from circulating unverified information with the investigation still ongoing.
