FORMER Gilas Pilipinas Youth stud Renzo Competente's wait for his long-awaited UAAP return will have to be a little bit longer.
The Adamson guard suffered a knee injury during the Cebu City Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament last month, ruling him out of the upcoming Season 88 men's basketball tournament.
"Sayang nga kasi we're looking at him to fill that two-spot which is nawala sa amin nung umalis si Royce Mantua," said Soaring Falcons coach Nash Racela.
Competente, now 20, came up from the Far Eastern University juniors program before playing for the Tamaraws in Season 86. He then transferred to University of Santo Tomas until ultimately landing in San Marcelino.

The 6-foot-2 swingman showed flashes for the Soaring Falcons during the PlayTime Cares Filoil EcoOil 18th Preseason Cup, suiting up in four games and averaging 13.0 minutes of play.
He's currently in the U.S. and will undergo his operation upon his return to the Philippines on Oct. 1. As his recovery will take at least half a year, he would now be missing back-to-back seasons due to residency and injury.
Adamson still has a bumper crop of guards to fill in the gaps, however, led by Mathew Montebon, Matty Erolon, and Ray Allen Torres, as the white-and-blue seeks to continue springing surprises in this campaign.
