ADAMSON’s huge upset of La Salle on Saturday is just proof of how determined Joseph Nalos was in redeeming himself in the UAAP Season78 men’s basketball tournament.
After missing the Falcons’ previous game for serving out his suspension, Nalos came back with vengeance as he scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter to rally the back from 16 points down to stun the Green Archers, 75-74.
The performance of the Cebuano guard came after he sat out the Falcons’ game against National University on Wednesday, a 79-85 loss in overtime. Nalos was suspended following his ejection from last week’s match against Ateneo for a hard foul on Vince Tolentino.
Nalos admitted being personally down following the suspension, but later said he was motivated to contribute for the Falcons in his comeback game.
“Medyo down kasi ako sa nangyaring ‘yun,” he said. “Ginawa ko na lang motivation ‘yung game para mapakita ko na hindi ako ganun maglaro.”
“Hindi ko talaga intensyong saktan si Vince,” Nalos added.
Adamson’s overtime loss to National University was also tainted with controversy following a technical foul called on Jerome Garcia in the fourth quarter which many felt was questionable.
But Adamson coach Mike Fermin said they (coaching staff) made an effort to help the players move on from the defeat.
“I just told them to forget about it and move on na tayo. Some of our managers helped us. Nagbigay ng inspirational talks. Dun kami nakakuha ng lakas uli,” said Fermin.
Nalos said he was inspired to play well against La Salle after missing the NU match.
“Gusto ko lang makabawi na hindi ko natulungan ‘yung team sa last game sa NU,” said Nalos.
