ADAMSON continues to be a thorn on the side of University of Santo Tomas.

The Soaring Falcons remained an unsolved riddle for the Growling Tigers after pulling off a 85-57 statement win in UAAP Season 89 on Saturday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The victory marked Adamson’s third straight triumph over UST, as the former improved its head-to-head record against the latter to 8-3 post-pandemic.

UST last defeated Adamson in the second round of Season 87.

The black-and-gold actually got off to a hot start with an early 8-3 lead, but the Soaring Falcons answered with a 16-4 counter to take control.

The San Marcelino-based squad continued to dictate the tempo from there, keeping the Growling Tigers at bay time and again to notch a bounce-back win.

Mathew Montebon also bounced back from his poor shooting game the last time around, leading Adamson with 21 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals on 5-of-11 shooting.

“I’m just very proud of our team. They’re (UST) a very talented team, but I think the coaches put in a very good game plan. And I think it was just up to us players to go out and execute. I think we did for the most part,” he said.

Matty Erolon chipped in 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal, while sophomore Earl Medina also added 11 points, four rebounds, and two steals.

Coach Nash Racela proved that defense remains the Soaring Falcons' bread-and-butter, as they forced UST into 20 turnovers and converted those miscues into 21 points.

“Well, the players did their part. We gave them a game plan and we followed it. But I think that’s the only way you’ll have a chance if you really follow it and really listen,” the veteran tactician stressed.

Collins Akowe paced the Growling Tigers with 19 points, 15 rebounds, and two assists, as Mark Llemit, who broke out in their previous outing, struggled with just two markers to his name.
