COACH Goldwin Monteverde is not getting carried away with Adamson’s fine showing in the UAAP, especially after the Baby Falcons got a wake-up call in the PSSBC.
The Baby Falcons who swept the first round of the UAAP suffered a 73-72 loss to NCAA champion Mapua in the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship on Tuesday.
Adamson is seeing action in the PSSC to keep sharp during the holiday break.
The game against the Red Robins, Monteverde said, let him gauge their level of play, and he says the Baby Falcons are still far from the team that he wants to see on the floor in the UAAP Season 79 juniors basketball tournament.
“First round pa lang ’yun. Malayo pa. We have to work on ‘yung mga things na kailangan naming iimprove. Against Mapua, hindi kami consistent sa ginagawa namin. That was a perfect example na we have to concentrate on our improvements to be ready in the second round,” said Monteverde.
The Baby Falcons recently finished the first round on a high note, winning an 83-point decision over University of the East.
Monteverde is also the head coach of the Chiang Kai Shek College high school basketball squad, a school he led to numerous championships in the Tiong Lian, Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation and the PSSBC.
Adamson is counting on Monteverde to deliver the UAAP title, but he wants to see improvement before entertaining talk of championships.
He didn’t go into detail, however, what part of their game he wants to focus on.
“Siguro consistency lang sa ginagawa namin. ’Yung hard work is paying off,” said Monteverde.
