BROADCAST giant ABS-CBN is hell-bent on keeping the television rights of the UAAP that no less than its big boss has gotten involved in the negotiations for a new broadcast deal.

A league source revealed to Spin.ph that no less than ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio tendered the initial offer of the giant network to the UAAP, setting the tone for the negotiations of a new broadcast pact.

The involvement of Santos-Concio, who took over as company president from Gabby Lopez a few years ago and is now considered one of the most powerful persons in the entertainment industry, has sent the message that the giant network is bent on revewing the contract, according to the source.

And yet despite Santos-Concio’s involvement in the negotiations, the source said there is still no decision on whether the UAAP will keep ABS-CBN as its broadcast partner starting in 2015.

ABS-CBN, which has been the league’s broadcast partner since 2000, is entering the final year of its current contract in Season 77.

“As per the contract of ABS-CBN, we are not allowed to even receive any offers from anyone until ma-saturate ang negotiations,” said the UAAP source.

However, TV5, according to a separate source, has already issued a letter of intent to bid for the broadcast rights of the UAAP games once ABS-CBN’s contract with the collegiate league expires.

TV5 is also the carrier of the PBA games.
