AARON Black said Kiefer Ravena and Von Pessumal played key roles in his transition from a role player to one of the top players of Ateneo in the UAAP.

Black said he learned a lot of things from the two stars of last year’s Blue Eagles squad during his rookie year before Ravena and Pessumal finished his college career with the Katipunan squad.

“I guess learning from the MVP (Ravena) last year along with Von Pessumal, and seeing them every practice, I was able to pick up things. They were able to teach me things that I was able to bring this year,” said Black.

Black led the way for Ateneo in the Blue Eagles’ 73-69 win over University of Santo Tomas, finishing with 23 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.

The son of multi-titled coach and import Norman Black said the win was a team effort, declining to point to himself as the reason behind Ateneo’s solid start.

“I wouldn’t say I’m the top guy. We would like to do it as a team. That’s coach Tab’s (Baldwin) philosophy,” said Black.

Instead, Black credited the entire team for the win which also got notable contributions from Thirdy Ravena, who had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Eagles.

“We came out sluggish to start the game. Our defense picked up at the start of the fourth quarter and we were able to execute our offense. It was a good team effort today. A lot of bench guys really helped us,” said Black.
