    Junior Maroons rally from 15 points down to beat Tiger Cubs in UAAP Juniors

    UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Integrated School rallied in the fourth quarter to stun University of Santo Tomas, 91-87, on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

    Rafael Labao had 17 points and a dagger triple with 27 seconds to play, Matt Santiago scored nine of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, and the Junior Maroons won for only the second time in nine games.

    UPIS trailed by as many as 15 points, including 11 at 68-57 at the end of the third period, but outscored UST, 34-19, in the fourth period to pull off the win.

    UST dropped to 5-4 and has lost two straight games to open the second round.

    Leading Most Valuable Player candidate CJ Cansino had 29 points, 18 rebounds and two blocks, while Vince Dolendo had 15 points for the Tiger Cubs.

    Trailing, 70-76, UPIS made a 14-4 run in the fourth quarter.

    Joelo Tupaz had 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks, while King Vergeire had 13 points including a triple that cut the deficit to one, 78-77, before Santiago scored a lay-up as UPIS took the upper hand.

    Dolendo split his free throws to slice the gap to two points, but Labao put the game away with triple to up UPIS’s margin to five, 89-84.

    UPIS was actually in control in the first quarter but a 31-17 second quarter put UST ahead at halftime, 48-42.
