UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas is asking for prayers for Tiger Cubs big Alfred Loreto who will undergo surgery for brain tumor.
In a statement, the high school basketball team said that the 6-foot-6 center has been diagnosed with pituitary macroadenoma and will go through the knife on Sunday, coincidentally the start of the UAAP Season 87 boys’ basketball tournament.
With that, UST is asking for donations to help in the recovery of the 18-year-old slotman.
“While his immediate medical needs are being attended to and his doctors are upbeat about his full recovery, Alfred would need a lot of help to ensure he can go back to being a hardworking student-athlete of UST,” the statement read.
“We appeal to the kind and generous hearts of the Thomasian community, and to the many others, to help ease the financial burden on Alfred and his family. Big or small, your help is sure to go a long way.”
Donations are accepted through the team manager Jarvis Co at Metrobank (current account) 4817-4819-0902-0.
For Season 87, the Tiger Cubs have already begun using #ForAlfred on ther social media posts.

Loreto, who averaged 1.3 points and 1.7 rebounds last season, was expected to be one of the main cogs down low for the black-and-gold, teaming up with Koji Buenaflor and Racine Kane in the frontcourt, as it aims to reign supreme in the high school division.
Now, Loreto is bracing for a bigger fight of his own.
