    Fortea stars as NU Bullpups rip Adamson Baby Falcons to return to juniors finals

    TERRENCE Fortea was a man on a mission on Friday as his 30 points towed Nazareth School of National University back to the UAAP Season 81 juniors' basketball Finals with a 94-72 dismantling of Adamson at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

    The sweet-shooting swingman was in his element all-game long as he poured 20 of his 30 points in the first two quarters, capped off by his magical step-back triple to beat the first half buzzer of the semifinal as the Bullpups cruised to their eighth straight championship series.

    Fortea shot 9-of-17 from the field, including seven triples, on top of his two rebounds and two assists to carry the load for the top-seed NU.

    The Bullpups now await their Finals foe from the winner of the series between Ateneo and FEU-Diliman.

    "We really prepared sa game at na-execute naman namin. Ang importante is we get ready for Finals," said coach Goldwin Monteverde, who is looking for his first UAAP title in his second year with NU.

    Fortea's 30 accounted for almost three-fifths of the Bullpups' 49 bench points, while also having seven of his team's 10 treys.

    "He really played well talaga. Day-in and day-out naman, ganoon siya. He tries his best and he plays his best," said Monteverde of his spitfire guard.

    Cyril Gonzales provided support with his 13 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while Gerry Abadiano got 11 points and four boards.

    NU's big men were also happy to do the dirty work as Kevin Quiambao got eight points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Reyland Torres and Carl Tamayo combined for 10 points, 10 boards, and three rejections.

    The Bullpups were quick to blow the game wide open, starting off with a hot 15-4 opener as they went on and hold off the Baby Falcons for the entirety of the second half as they annexed the lead to as high as 25 numerous times in the final period.

    Didat Hanapi paced Adamson in the losing effort with 19 points and two rebounds, as AP Manlapaz tallied a double-double with his 12 points and 14 boards.

    Joem Sabandal ended his high school career with seven points on a 3-of-10 shooting, to go with five rebounds and five assists before he fouled out with 8:14 left to play.
