SJ BELANGEL of Ateneo is now the top player in the NBTC-Chooks To Go High School Power Rankings following Sunday’s impressive play for the Blue Eaglets in the final elimination round game of UAAP Season 80.
Belangel fired 31 points in the Blue Eaglets’ 78-68 win over National University, enough for the panel of coaches and sportswriters to name the 18-year-old guard as the top-ranked player in the power rankings also called as ‘NBTC 24.’
Belangel rose to the top over teammate Kai Sotto of Ateneo, with Joel Cagulangan of La Salle Greenhills, Will Gozum of Mapua, and L-Jay Gonzales of Far Eastern University retaining their position in the top five.
Rhayyan Amsali of NU maintained his spot in sixth, while UAAP Season 80 MVP CJ Cansino of University of Santo Tomas rose two spots at number seven. Dave Ildefonso of Ateneo, Aaron Fermin of Arellano, and Clint Escamis of Mapua round out the top 10.
Occupying the 11th to 15th spots are John Galinato of Chiang Kai Shek College, Inand Fornilos of La Salle Greenhills, Warren Bonifacio of Mapua, RJ Abarrientos of FEU, and Evan Nelle of San Beda.
Joem Sabandal of Adamson took the 16th spot, while Alex Visser of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo De Cebu is now ranked at 17 from 21. Terrence Fortea of NU, Raven Cortez of De La Salle-Zobel, and Beirn Laurente of University of Visayas are at 18, 19, and 20 respectively.
