FEU's RJ Abarrientos takes top spot in NBTC UAAP 24

    Nov 30, 2018

RJ Abarrientos made sure to make his shots count when it mattered.

Missing the potential game-winner at the end of regulation, FEU's main man atoned for that blunder and pumped 12 of his 28 points in the overtime period as he went on a blazing 8-of-16 three-point clip, to go with four assists, three rebounds, a steal, and a block as the Baby Tamaraws cut the towering Ateneo Blue Eaglets down to size for their second win in the UAAP Season 81 juniors basketball tournament.

Abarrientos' performance earned him the top spot in the third week of the Chooks-to-Go NBTC UAAP 24 weekly rankings.

Despite the Ateneo defeat, Kai Sotto remained at second place with another solid performance as the 16-year-old prodigy unleashed 31 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks.

Carl Tamayo remains a consistent performer for the unbeaten NU Bullpups as he rose to third, while De La Salle Zobel's Lance Jomalesa made a big leap from 21 last week to fourth.

This year, there will be three separate editions of the NBTC 24 – one for the NCAA, one for the UAAP, and one for the CESAFI – to accommodate the Juniors calendar for the whole year.

After all three editions have been completed, a final list composing the top 24 players nationwide will then be chosen to participate in the annual NBTC All-Star Game in March.
