RJ Abarrientos captained FEU-Diliman's 27-point smashing of De La Salle-Zobel to grab its fourth straight win in the UAAP Season 81 juniors' basketball tournament on Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The senior guard with 23 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal as the Baby Tamaraws went on a 33-point second-quarter explosion to quickly put the game out of reach by halftime, 53-32.
But it wasn't all Abarrientos, with Royce Alforque dropping a huge double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds with six assists, four steals and a block, as well as Xyrus Torres unloading 15 points and three boards to his name.
The win allowed FEU-Diliman to avenge its first-round defeat to La Salle-Zobel, 67-62, while also improving to 7-2 in the standings.
"Yung hard work at yung willingness to win, yun yung nag-push sa kanila para makabawi sa La Salle," remarked coach Allan Albano, who expects the Baby Tamaraws to contend for the top two spots and twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
"Mayabang naman ako kung in-expect ko kaming mag-1 o 2 kami, pero the way na magtrabaho sila sa practice, I think, hindi imposible na mag-1 o 2 kami," he said.
Henrie Subido led the Junior Archers with 14 points, Raven Cortez scored 10 and Paulo Villarin five.
DLSZ has now lost its last four games to drop further down the ranks with its 3-6 card.
In the first game, Adam Doria sparked Adamson to a 94-66 beatdown of University of the Philippines Integrated School.
Doria uncorked 27 big points, on top of his eight rebounds, an assist and a steal as the Baby Falcons rose to 6-3.
Main man Joem Sabandal was happy to take the back seat with his 11 points, seven boards, seven dimes, and two steals, whole JM Tulabut got 10 points and six rebounds.
The Junior Maroons could not sustain their groove after last game's confidence-boosting win over DLSZ as they remained at the cellar with their 1-8 record.
Allen Torres led UPIS with 19 points and five rebounds, Ralph Labao got 16 points and four boards, and Jordi Gomez de Liano had 12 and two.
