    John Cansino lifts UST over skidding FEU as NU, Ateneo stay unbeaten in UAAP juniors

    John Cansino put up back-to-back strong showings with a huge double-double in a UST win over FEU.

    JOHN Cansino had 29 points and 11 rebounds as University of Santo Tomas defeated reigning champion Far Eastern University, 82-79, on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

    The Tiger Cubs climbed to third place with a 3-1 win-loss slate while the Baby Tamaraws slipped to fourth with a 2-2 card.

    Cansino was coming off a 35-point, 12-rebound effort in UST’s previous game against National University.

    Kobe Palencia contributed 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists for the Tiger Cubs.

    RJ Abarrientos finished with 16 points and seven rebounds for the Baby Tamaraws.

    Meanwhile, National University and Ateneo stayed unbeaten after beating separate rivals also on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

    The Bullpups beat Adamson, 92-82, while the Blue Eagles won over University of the East, 97-47, to hike their record to identical 4-0 win-loss cards.

    Terrence Fortea had 26 points, seven points, five assists, and two steals, while Rhayyan Amsali had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Bullpups, who beat the Baby Falcons team that was previously coached by current NU mentor Goldwin Monteverde.

    Andrey Doria had 22 points for the Baby Falcons, who dropped to 1-3.

    On the other hand, Joaqui Manuel had 15 points and eight rebounds, and SJ Belangel had 13 points, five rebounds, and seven assists for the Blue Eaglets, who also got 12 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks from Kai Sotto.

    UE is the only winless team in the league with a 0-4 slate.

    De La Salle-Zobel, meanwhile, notched its first win after the Junior Archers defeated University of the Philippines Integrated School, 79-73.

    RC Calimag had 18 points, while Raven Cortez added 17 points, seven rebounds, and six blocks for the Junior Archers, who improved to 1-3.
