    Nonoy stars as Tiger Cubs score first win; Sotto leads Eaglets to second straight victory

    MARK Nonoy was in full control as University of Santo Tomas took a 75-63 victory over University of the Philippines for its first win in the UAAP Season 81 juniors basketball tournament on Sunday at Blue Eagle Gym.

    The transferee from West Negros University tallied a triple-double of 17 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists, while making four steals to help the Tiger Cubs score the breakthrough win.

    Bismarck Lina rebounded from his subpar opening day showing with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks, while Vince Dolendo came off the bench to add 11 points and seven boards.

    UST leveled its standing to 1-1, while dealing UP its second straight defeat.

    Ralph Labao carried the Junior Maroons with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals, while John Tuazon and Jacob Estrera both had 11.

    In the first game, Kai Sotto continued to tear through the competition to guide Ateneo to a 75-59 conquest over Adamson.

    The 16-year-old prodigy unleashed 27 points, 20 rebounds, three assists and a block for the undefeated Blue Eaglets (2-0).

    Jed Diaz chimed in 13 points, 15 boards, and two rejections, while Joaquin Jaymalin had 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

    Ateneo played its first game without lead point guard Forthsky Padrigao, who is out for the rest of the first round due to appendicitis.

    Joem Sabandal topped the Baby Falcons in the losing cause with 23 points, four rebounds, and an assist, while Jake Engbino added 10 and eight.
