KAI Sotto of Ateneo is set to receive the Rookie of the Year honors in the UAAP Season 79 juniors basketball tournament, the crowning glory to a season that has seen the 6-9 prodigy make a big leap in his development as a player.
The 14-year-old son of former PBA player Ervin Sotto will formally be awarded the individual award before Game Two of the UAAP juniors finals between Far Eastern University and National University, the league said in a statement.
The Ateneo freshman led the league in blocks with 1.5 a game and compiled averages of 4.6 points and 5.1 rebounds in 12 games with the Blue Eaglets.

Sotto also showed marked improvement in the second round where he showed consistency in rebounding and blocks, posting 7.7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in the final seven games.
With Sotto as the rim protector, Ateneo reached the Final Four of Season 79 but lost to Far Eastern University in a sudden-death match for a place in the finals.
