THE resumption of the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball tournament will immediately have a blockbuster affair with powerhouse teams National University and Ateneo battling once again on January 13 at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Bullpups and Blue Eaglets, seen as title favorites for the season, are set to clash on that date at 3 p.m.
NU and Ateneo battled in the final day of the first round last December 15 with the Bullpups beating the Blue Eaglets, 78-62. It was also a rematch of Season 79’s title series with Ateneo winning the series over NU in three games.
With the victory, the Bullpups ended in first place with a 6-1 card, while Far Eastern University, Ateneo, and Adamson gained a share of second with a 5-2 card.
Carl Tamayo battled it out against Kai Sotto in their first meeting between the top future top bigs in the country in the UAAP with Tamayo contributing 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Sotto collected better numbers than Tamayo, having 23 points and 13 rebounds, but Tamayo had support with Terrence Fortea scoring 17 points and Gerry Abadiano tallying 16 points.
Sotto and Tamayo were also teammates in the national team during the Fiba Under-17 World Cup last year in Argentina.
Meanwhile, FEU battles Adamson at 11 a.m.
University of the East takes on University of Santo Tomas at 9 a.m., while De La Salle-Zobel goes up against University of the Philippines Integrated School at 1 p.m.
