UPPING his game in his third year, Kai Sotto soared to the No. 1 spot in the opening week of the Chooks-to-Go NBTC UAAP 24, this year's third edition of the weekly high school player rankings.

The UAAP Season 81 Juniors season kicked off last weekend with all eight teams seeing action. Defending champion Ateneo began its title defense with a rousing 74-61 win over the UST Tiger Cubs. The 7-foot-1 Sotto was a man among boys as he posted 24 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and four blocks.

Sotto, NBTC's No. 1 ranked player last year, is off to a blazing start in cementing his place as the best high school player in the country.

At No. 2 is Batang Gilas standout Carl Tamayo of the NU Bullpups. In his debut for last season’s runners-up, Tamayo uncorked a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in a big win over the FEU Baby Tamaraws.
