UNIVERSITY of the East ended its UAAP Season 81 juniors' basketball campaign on a high as it continued its mastery of University of the Philippines Integrated School, 80-76, on Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Jesse Sullano led the Junior Warriors with 29 points and 17 rebounds, while also delivering the game-sealing block on Jordi Gomez de Liano.
Mike Flores added 12 points, eight boards, and four assists as Leo Almacen got 10 and four.
Shane Dichoso had 15 rebounds and six dimes to make up for his paltry 3-of-14 shooting and wound up with just seven points as UE snapped a six-game losing run.
The Junior Warriors got their act together in the fourth quarter, clawing their way back from a 60-54 deficit with a 9-0 run to take a 63-60 lead after a Justin Tan fastbreak to set up the tight finish.
Gomez de Liano tied the game at 74 with a three-point play in the last 2:22, but Sullano went to work down low and once again put UE ahead, 79-74 with 1:41 to play.
The win allowed Junior Warriors coach Florence Conlu to end the season at seventh place with their 2-12 win-loss card.
Jacob Estrera paced UPIS with 30 points on a 5-of-10 clip from downtown, to go with his nine rebounds and two assists.
King Vergiere tallied a double-double with his 14 points and 11 rebounds, but went scoreless in the fourth and missed a pair of crucial baskets in the endgame. Gomez de Liano also had 12 and nine in the loss as the Junior Maroons ended the year at the bottom with their 1-13 card.
