NATIONAL University ended 2018 and began 2019 by doing one thing and one thing only – get the better of modern-day rival Ateneo in the juniors division.

To do so, the Bullpups followed the lead of team captain Gerry Abadiano who has done nothing but good things in his first year in blue and gold.

In their second-round meeting against the Blue Eaglets last Sunday, the Batang Gilas guard was steady as always and scored 16 points to go along with five rebounds.

More importantly, it was him who kept his squad in line in the face of an Ateneo side determined to get back at them and under the bright lights of a nationally televised game.

Like he always does, Abadiano came through and in doing so, came away with the top spot in Week 7 of the NBTC UAAP 24.

Right behind him in the weekly rankings is another Ilonggo in Mark Nonoy owho tallied a triple-double of 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists on top of three steals in a UST win.

That was the second triple-double in the tournament for the Tiger Cubs’ 5-foot-8 playmaking revelation.

RJ Abarrientos of FEU and Kai Sotto of Ateneo follow suit at third and fourth, respectively, while coming out of nowhere to stand at fifth is little-known Ernest Felicilda.

Make no mistake, NU’s court general was nothing but worthy of his first-ever inclusion into the list as he collected 14 points, six assists, five rebounds, and four steals all while proving to be a problem for his counterparts like Forthsky Padrigao and Ian Espinosa.

Rounding out the top 10 are Baby Tamaraw Bryan Sajonia, Bullpups Terrence Fortea and Carl Tamayo, Tiger Cub Bismarck Lina, and another NU player in Kevin Quiambao.

This year, there will be three separate editions of the NBTC 24 – one for the NCAA, one for the UAAP, and one for the CESAFI – to accommodate the Juniors calendar for the whole year.

After all three editions have been completed, a final list composing the top 24 players nationwide will then be chosen to participate in the annual NBTC All-Star Game in March.
