NAZARETH School of National University closed in on claiming the top seed in the UAAP Season 81 juniors' basketball tournament with a 77-56 decimation of University of the East on Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
It was an utter domination on the part of the Bullpups as they showed no mercy facing off against the cellar-dwelling Junior Warriors.
Gerry Abadiano led the balanced attack from NU with 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The Bullpups scored their sixth straight blowout conquest and improved to an 11-1 win-loss slate. Victory in their next game against UPIS will earn NU the No. 1 seed and a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
Carl Tamayo registered 15 points and six rebounds, an assist and a block off the bench, as fellow big man Kevin Quiambao got the job done down low for NU with 14 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and a rejection.
The Bullpups hardly missed the services of spitfire guard Terrence Fortea, who was serving his one-game suspension stemming from his disqualifying foul in their game against De La Salle-Zobel.
NU controlled the boards, 58-40, and forced UE to commit 27 turnovers which turned to 19 easy points.
Shane Dichoso was the lone bright spot for the lowly Junior Warriors with 24 points and five rebounds as they sunk to a 1-11 record.
